Virtual Reality on Minecraft? It's almost over on PlayStation VR

We no longer present the Minecraft phenomenonthis cult game, allowing us to let our imagination create completely crazy stories alone or with our friends online. Since its release in 2011Minecraft has arrived on almost every platform, whether it's on game consoles, on PC, on mobile, but also in VR (and even in film soon). But after more than a decade of being on all fronts, it's time for Mojang to leave out some versions of the gamestarting with virtual reality on PlayStation VR.

It was in 2020 that VR support on PlayStation VR (the first version, on PS4) arrived, allowing you to play Minecraft in virtual reality. Since then, many praises have followed, confirming that it was of a stable and very well optimized versionallowing you to take part in our adventures like never before. However, despite positive feedback and a version that seems to be doing well, the Mojang studio decides to stop its support for PlayStation VR as early as March 2025.

“Our ability to support PlayStation VR has ended and will no longer be supported in updates after March 2025. After receiving the final update, you will still receive updates on your PlayStation and will be able to play without PlayStation VR. From that point on, you can continue to build in your worlds, and your Marketplace purchases (including Tokens) will continue to be available. You will no longer be able to use your PlayStation VR with Minecraft as it will no longer be supported in the latest updates.”

According to the first rumorsthis decision would be directly related to the ps5 version of minecraft which is currently in development and a possible PlayStation VR2 version which could happen at the same time. For the moment, Mojang has still not given a precise release date for the PS5 version of the game. A first preview was revealed last June and the Swedish studio confirmed that PS4 players who are on PS5 will have the opportunity to test this version in preview. To be continued.
