The Rings of Power: what properties do the Rings of Elves, Dwarves and Men have?

On Prime Video, the series The Rings of Power lives up to its name. After a first season that looked like a long setup, the free adaptation of JRR Tolkien's works gets down to business. If it's the Creation of the Rings of the Elves which marked the end of the first chapter, that of those intended for the Dwarves is invited from the fifth episode of season 2. After all, it is less their creation that will be explored than the way in which Sauron manages to interfere in the process to pervert them. This Thursday, September 12, seven new Rings were distributed, the opportunity to return to their properties and the effects they have on their wearers.

“Three Rings for the Elven Kings under the Sky”

The return of Sauron has brought back to life an evil that the Elves thought was buried. The Elves see their immortality threatened, the Trees of Lindon are dying and King Gil-galad sends Elrond to the Dwarves to seek their help and create an immense forge. In his quest, the character will discover the existence of Mithril. It has extraordinary properties and can reverse the effects of the evil that is eating away at Lindon and more broadly all the elven lands. If the Dwarves refuse to provide this metal to the blacksmiths, Elrond will manage to steal a tiny quantity to give birth to three Rings, thanks to Halbrand's teachings concerning the alloy.

This season 2 is an opportunity to see the famous Rings in action, to discover what they can do in the universe of the series. In JRR Tolkien's novels, their properties are briefly mentioned, but say a lot about the peoples. The Elven Rings are thus renowned for their healing power. They were forged to protect their lands, attempting to make them as beautiful as Valinor. The Rings worn by Galadriel, Gil-galad, and Cirdan are thus capable of healing. To support this idea, Episode 4 showed the elf warrior using Nenya to save one of the soldiers who is injured during the battle against the specters.

“Seven for the Dwarf Lords in their Halls of Stone”

Celebrimbor continues what will be his life's work in this fifth episode of the Rings of Power. Aided by Annatar, Sauron's false identity, the jeweler sets about creating seven Rings for the Dwarves. Durin III and his people have lost their connection with the mountain that shelters them, food is becoming increasingly scarce and darkness reigns in the buried city. The seven jewels forged for them will allow them to regain their former glory. They will use them to amplify their natural gifts, gain wealth. But while the Dwarf Lords proved resistant to Sauron's corruption, due to their stubbornness the jewels made their wearers greedy and covetous.

“Nine for Men Doomed to Death”

If Celebrimbor refuses for the moment, Nine Rings will be made for men. As the master blacksmith says, humans are corruptible and they are the ones who will be most useful to Sauron. But before that, they give their wearers extraordinary abilities. Offered to Men directly by Sauron, the Nine give their holders the skill of influencing people's will. They also offered them immortality. But over time, they took on a spectral form, becoming invisible to all except the one who holds the One Ring or the Elves. The Nine Ring-bearing Lords became The Nazgûlcreatures that inspire fear.

“One to rule them all”

This is the last ring and without a doubt the most important. At the top of Mount Doom, rich in the learnings of Celebrimbor, Sauron forges the One Ring, capable of ruling them all. He places an infinity of his powers there and binds his destiny to that of the object. If the One Ring is destroyed, then Sauron will be too. The One can allow its wearer to control all the wearers of the other Rings. However, he will not be able to bend the Elves, those having withdrawn them and hidden before. The Dwarves too were impervious to corruption. of Sauron, their stubbornness protecting them. However, their greed and greed will lead them to their downfall and benefit the Dark Lord. Finally, Men were corrupted to become the Servants of Sauron, to become the Nazgûl.
