The Boys: Expect a deadly finale… in every sense of the word

Season 5 of The Boys will be the last. After having made live Supernatural For fifteen episodes, Eric Kripke has the firm intention of not pushing the envelope too far with the adventures of Billy Butcher and his gang. It must be said that the build-up in the last episodes leaves little room for doubt: it's almost the end. In 2026, The Boys will thus conclude its journey that began in 2019 on Prime Video. While the details of this final season remain a mystery, Kripke spoke to Total Film at San Diego Comic-Con.

The father of The Boys wants to warn viewers, this is not going to be a walk in the park. Our heroes have so far slipped through the cracks, but are likely to be caught up in the harsh reality of their mortality. Kripke said: “There will probably be a lot of deaths.”The designer adds that the definitive aspect of these farewells offers greater freedom of movement to his creative teams.

“There are no guarantees, you don’t know who will survive. We don’t have to keep them for another season, so some really shocking things can happen.”

Comic book readers know that no one is safe. While the series has taken some liberties with its source material, we can expect that each of the series' protagonists suffer a similar fate to their paper alter ego. Without saying too much, the end of The Boys should leave a bitter taste in the mouths of the spectators…

A fitting end

Farewells are often the hardest to hatch. Many small screen productions have experienced this painful and delicate moment, some with more ease than others. Erik Kripke is aware that this last salvo of episodes is expected at the turning point.

“A lot of series endings suck. It’s really hard to stick the landing. I’m really grateful to Amazon for giving me the opportunity to end the show on our own terms, but I feel a lot of pressure to end it well. Because I think if we can stick the landing, people will say, ‘That’s a great show!’ But if we don’t, people will say, ‘Oh, that was a good show, but they f***ed up the ending.’”

The appointment is therefore made for the year 2026the teams must return to the film sets at the end of this year 2024 and until 2025. In the meantime, the universe is far from having said its last word since spin-offs are in development. Prime Video took advantage of the San Diego Comic-Con to formalize the start of work on Vought Rising dedicated to Soldier Boy and Storm Front as well as the early days of the Vought company. The Boys: Mexico is also moving forward, although the release date remains a mystery. Finally, The Boys: Gen V is set to return next year. After mocking the Marvel and DC cinematic universe, the series seems to be taking the same path and multiplying derivative productions. To excess?
