Star Wars gives news of its return to cinemas (and it's good)

Just like the Marvel universe, Star Wars has suffered from Disney's missteps in recent years. The big-eared firm felt its wings growing following the acquisition of Lucasfilm but never managed to take off. Since its return to the big screen in 2015, the franchise has only oscillated between failures and successes. The dichotomy between the new trilogy and Rogue One is a pattern that keeps repeating itself, even on the Disney+ side. Some productions divide, others are unanimous… but the studio never manages to unite. However, the entertainment giant persists in its quest for the perfect recipe.

At the moment, the originality of Skeleton Crew and the imminent return ofAndor are a source of hope, but the fans' concerns lie above all in the future of Star Wars at the cinema. Because if the streaming platform manages to keep this universe alive somehow, new failures in theaters could prove fatal. Despite everything, the imminent danger does not prevent Disney from multiplying announcements without ever seeing them through. This chaotic organization is not reassuring, but one of the new figures in the franchise is trying to restore some balance in the Force.

The director of Deadpool and Wolverine to the rescue

The Mandalorian & Grogu may be the next film Star Wars with a tangible release date – May 26, 2026 – it’s another project that’s getting people talking on the cusp of 2025. Interviewed by IndieWirefilmmaker Shawn Levy has finally confirmed his commitment to a new project from the galaxy far, far away: “My work on Deadpool & Wolverine has been so satisfying that I'm already open to what comes next. And yes, I am in the process of developing a Star Wars film alongside Jonathan Tropper, screenwriter on Adam Through Time. But you never know what will really happen.

It seems that it is impossible to talk about Star Wars projects other than in the conditional. Nothing is set in stone yet, but Shawn Levy nonetheless remains a promising profile for the franchise. The director of Deadpool & Wolverine has already reported his wish to explore other eras of the universe on occasion from a podcast broadcast last summer. After the disappointing approach of The Acolyte in terms of the extended universe, Shawn Levy is going to have to redouble his efforts to regain the trust of the fans. Rumors from the corridors suggest that filming will begin in 2025, which suggests that we will obtain more information in the months to come. To be continued.
