Squid Game season 2: the director explains the frustrating ending
Netflix ended its year with a bang. After 365 days full of entertainment of all kinds, on the series and film side, the American platform celebrated the return of its biggest hit a few days ago. Even though the creator had no intention of continuing after season 1, the firm was able to find the right arguments to convince him to come back. Hwang Dong-hyuk offered a sequel to Gi-hun's adventures, confronting his hero with new sadists. On December 26, seven completely new chapters were made available. Taking advantage of the holidays, many spectators devoured season 2. But the grand finale is not to everyone's taste. No squid game?
The first season had a fairly simple construction. After a first introductory episode, the series featured one test per episode until a conclusion rich in emotion. The entire competition was thus covered, the identity of the winner was no longer a secret. Hwang Dong-hyuk, aware that he will not be able to offer a third iteration of these games, has chosen not to deliver a real conclusion. A third season is promised for the year 2025, the father of Squid Game wants to keep several aces up its sleeve. Asked about this finale by Variety, Hwang Dong-hyeok explains that his first version of season 2 consisted of 10 episodes.
A succession of failures
He deepens his approach, notably evoking the importance of this season being that of Gi-hon's failures. In the first salvo, the character comes away with the jackpot despite himself. From loser to avenger, he needed to have incredible luck to better support his desire to find those who were behind the games. He is aware of having obtained something that few others have: a new opportunity in life. It is this luck which will be the driving force of season 2. Except that, this time, it does not smile on him.
This time, Gi-hun is an actor in his tragedy. It was his idea to rebel, to take up arms. Season 3 should evolve around swe feel guilty as much as the growing hatred he feels towards the Game Master.
When can you see season 3?
With such a cliffhanger, there is no doubt that many spectators are already impatient to discover the conclusion. Season 3, announced a few months ago, should not take long to wait, Netflix has promised a release in 2025. The creator specifies the window, he hopes to return to the forefront during next summer or fall. Concerning the paths taken by the narration, the screenwriter invites us to pay attention to the post-credits scene. It appears that another game is underway elsewhere in the world.
