PS5 Pro: a technical presentation that smells of officialization
PlayStation fans have been waiting for months for the announcement of the PS5 Pro, the boosted version of Sony's console that has been the subject of much speculation for months. Fortunately, all things come to those who wait.
After an initial teaser a few days ago, the firm has justannounce a ” technical presentation » imminentwhich will be held tomorrow at 5 p.m. French time.
Join us tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. for a technical presentation of the PlayStation 5 hosted by Mark Cerny.
The stream will last 9 minutes, more details here: https://t.co/5XufV26AI6 https://t.co/QmYIMkfJfb

The details of this conference have not been explicitly revealed; the company simply explains that it will focus on the PlayStation 5. But the press release also specifies that it will be hosted by Mark Cerny, who is none other than the chief architect of the console. It was already he who had given us a long technical conference before the original PS5 was released, and the fact that it's back in the spotlight is no coincidence. Between the wording, the timing, and the speaker's identity, everything suggests that the famous PS5 Pro will be officially announced tomorrow night.
Unless there's a big surprise, Sony should focus on the technical specifications of the machine. Leaks suggested that this new model would be entitled to a slightly more powerful CPU, but above all to a much superior GPU that should allow playing in higher resolution with better support for ray-tracing. Mark Cerny will probably give us more information on this level, even if the length of the conference (barely 9 minutes) suggests that he will not dwell on the details.
What release date, and at what price?
Beyond the hardware, there are two other pieces of information that the public is eagerly awaiting. The first is obviously the price. For reference, the PS4 Pro was about 33% more expensive than the base console. Knowing that the PS5 is currently offered at €499 new at most retailers, the PS5 Pro could flirt with €600. It remains to be seen whether this price will be justified by the gain in performance.
The second big unknown is the timing. However, there are some clues that suggest the console should hit the market in a relatively short period of time. According to The Verge, Sony has issued a new specification to developers, stating that they should make all their upcoming games compliant with this new platform starting September 16, 2024. Could this be the release date? That remains to be seen, but it strongly suggests that future customers will not have to wait more than a few weeks.
We will therefore meet you tomorrow at 5 p.m. on the PlayStation YouTube channel (see below) to get the latest answers.
