Magic Vs3: Honor's affordable folding smartphone unveiled

The final stretch before the presentation of a new generation of folding smartphones at Honor. The Chinese manufacturer, which is progressing rapidly in this segment, is preparing an announcement for July 12. This only concerns China, but we have become accustomed to discovering the products of the former Huawei subsidiary on the other side of the world. Very often, the international strategy pushes Honor to launch them in our countries a few months later.

Eyes are inevitably turning to the Magic V3, already expected to be the world's thinnest new folding smartphone. The current Honor Magic V2, tested in our columns, still holds the record for the thinnest folding model with its 9.9 mm thickness. A year after its launch, it should only be surpassed by the Magic V3 which promises to push this limit. The latest indiscretions mention a thickness of 9.7 mm when folded, which will not prevent it from offering an interesting technical sheet.

An ultra-thin Magic V3 and more affordable Magic V3s

However, this model may not be affordable for everyone. Honor is preparing to launch another more accessible model called Magic Vs3 and logical successor to the Magic Vs2. The technical ambitions are necessarily revised downwards on this model, which already appears for pre-order on the Chinese Honor site. The design of the device is visible and shows the presence of a large external screen, as well as an imposing photo block on the back. A telephoto lens seems to be present, as on the previous model.

Available in black, white and green, the Magic Vs3 comes in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage versions. However, we don't know the exact specifications of this folding smartphone. On Geekbench, the Honor Magic Vs3 has been preview with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 12GB of RAM. It ran Android 14, achieving a single-core score of 2,051 and a multi-core score of 5,643 in Geekbench 6.3.

The presence of this Qualcomm SoC seems logical to succeed the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 of the Magic Vs2. On the other hand, this model will be less powerful than the Magic V3 expected with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It will be interesting to know the differences between the two, as well as the price of a model that is intended to be more accessible.

Will Magic Vs3 be released in France?

The information will concern China on July 12, but the new range of folding smartphones could arrive quickly in France. Given Honor's ambitions on our market, we can say that the Magic V3 should make the big leap to succeed the Magic V2 and the Porsche Design variant. On the other hand, the future is more unclear concerning the Magic Vs3 since its predecessor never set down its suitcases in France.
