In the game Dune, Paul Atreides does not exist

After Dune: Spice Warsthe franchise created by Frank Herbert wants to offer itself a second life in the world of video games with an MMO called Dune: Awakening. The latter was announced several years ago, but never really showed what he had in his stomach. The Summer Game Fest is therefore an opportunity to see it in a new light, and to learn more about its narrative.

We discover in its new trailer that Dune: Awakening will not take place according to the same story as the novels or films since it starts from the postulate that Paul Atreides does not exist. Indeed, the game would take place in an alternative reality in which the “hero” was never born, with all the consequences that ensue. The Atreides family is therefore not killed, the Fremen are exterminated and the conquest for control of the spice takes unexpected turns.

The trailer still does not show gameplay images, but rather an overview of what the game's narrative has in store for us. As an MMO, it will take an important place in the construction of the universe, but should have remained subtle in the way it fits into the title. This is undoubtedly why the Funcom studio wanted to contextualize its work before its release. Visually in any case, the production hits the mark. It has nothing to envy of the films of Denis Villeneuve, the first two parts of which were released in cinemas.

Dune: Awakening still has no release date to remember. We don't even know yet if the game will be released this year, and if there will be early access. However, it is possible to register for the beta testing phase. The availability date is not known, but should arrive soon (hopefully?).
