Avatar: The Last Airbender: New Recruit for Season 2

Netflix's Geeked Week is coming to a close, but not before delivering some last-minute news about its most popular shows. Stranger Things, tomb Raider or even Black Mirrorthere was no shortage of announcements this September. While subscribers had to make do with a few social media posts at the beginning of the week, the event ended in style with an in-person presentation in Atlanta. This celebration of geek culture was an opportunity to get some news about Avatar: The Last Airbender. They're pretty good. After the success of the first batch of episodes, hostilities are launched for the sequel. For the past few days, actors, directors and producers have been on the sets to immortalize the new adventures of Aang, Katara, Sokka and Zuko.

Young actors Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley and Dallas Liu are obviously in the game, but they are not alone. Netflix has made Toph's arrival official. She is one of the viewers' favorite characters, the platform does not really have the right to make a mistake. As a reminder, she only appears in the second book of the animated version. She is an Earth Mastera young girl born blind who uses her skills to move through space by analyzing ground vibrations. Combative and sarcastic, she is considered “the most powerful Master of the Earth” to the world, something she never fails to constantly remind us of.

To embody her, Netflix will draw on actresses who have already signed a few productions for its catalog. It is the young Miya Cech who will lend him her features. She appeared in the series Relentless On Netflix, she played the teenage version of Amy, like in Always Be My Maybe Producers Jabbar Raisani and Christine Boylan explain that they met with hundreds and hundreds of actresses before choosing Miya Cech. “We made a point of reviewing candidates separately, and after countless auditions, we both had the same reaction… Miya is our Toph.”

Training has already started

If the actress' personality has seduced the producers, she now has to give body to Toph. Asked about how she prepared for the role, Miya Cech explains to Netflix TUDUM that she started training a week ago. The one who has a certain martial arts experience will have to perfect his practice to do justice to the action scenes that await him. “I have a great instructor who gives me private lessons at my home. He keeps me in shape when I'm not working. I also have some dance experience, which was very helpful in learning Toph's moves.” If the actress is not blind herself, she is accompanied by consultants and professionals to ensure that people with blindness are represented appropriately.

For now, The release date of these new episodes remains a mystery. The launch of filming is nevertheless a good omen, we can hope that a launch in 2025 is on the agenda. If necessary, Avatar: The Last Airbender would be one of the rare series not to make its viewers wait more than two years between each season.
