For its 30th anniversary, the PlayStation is offering itself a sublime retro edition
The PlayStation is a monument of video game heritage that has been a part of the daily lives of many gamers for several decades — three, to be precise. Indeed, the legendary console will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary on December 3; enough to make the gamers of the first hour feel quite old. Sony, for its part, has every intention of marking the occasion. For the occasion, the company has unveiled a new variant of its latest console which borrows the aesthetic codes of the original PlayStation.
“ To celebrate this 30th anniversary, we had to create something that pays homage to the history and joy that PlayStation has brought to all of us. “, said Hideaki Nishino, President of the console's business vision. And the least we can say is that Sony seems to have succeeded in its move.
Consoles and controllers with a devastating look
This new series features a collection of beautiful products that brilliantly blend the retro aesthetic of the original PlayStation with the sleek curves of the PS5. Sony unveiled two consoles — a variation of the PS5 standard and one of the all new PS5 Prowith its three characteristic lines and its astronomical price.
PS5 Pro: everything you need to know about the new console
Unlike the base models, with their immaculate white chassis, they are entitled to a superb gray dress that risks making PS1 nostalgics shiver. And if the lineage was not already obvious enough, they also sport the famous colorful logo that thrilled millions of gamers from 1994.
Both versions of the console will come with a few extra goodies, such as a retro cover, a collector's poster, and a sticker. The package will also include a DualSense controller (with an additional DualSense Edge for the Pro pack).
Of course, these controllers have also been given a particularly successful facelift. The controllers benefit from the same gray coating as the consoles, and the central PlayStation button, traditionally round, takes the shape of the original logo — a touch of color that has its little effect. Even the PlayStation Portal is entitled to its own variation, just as successful. Cherry on the cake: even the charging cable has an appendage reminiscent of the connector on the original PlayStation controller!
Beware of stock shortages
At the time of writing, Sony has not yet announced the price of these retro versions – although it is safe to say that the bill is likely to be quite steep. What is certain, however, is thatYou won't have to hesitate too much to get your hands on them; they are obviously limited editions. which will not be available in sufficient quantity to satisfy everyone. For example, only 12,300 copies of the Pro bundle will be available!
Those who are already dreaming of getting their hands on this collection will not have to hesitate too long before warming up their credit card. On the other hand, stocks are likely to be greater for the standard PlayStation 5 and for the controllers, which will also be sold separately. There should therefore be more room for maneuver for those who are not dreaming of a limited edition PS5 Pro.
Pre-orders will open on September 26th on direct.playstation.com.
