After the success of Beetlejuice 2, the musical comedy soon in Europe
Your session of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice made you want to extend the experience of this wacky universe? That's good, because Tim Burton's work doesn't stop there. Even if you've already rewatched the original countless times, know that there are still new ways to approach the story of the famous bio-exorcist. The biggest fans will most certainly think of the Fox Kids cartoon, broadcast in France from 1990 on Canal+. Unfortunately, this charming spin-off is not available on streaming platforms in France, which greatly complicates its viewing.
Today, Beetlejuice fans will find their happiness on music streaming platforms. Did you know that the 1988 film was offered a musical adaptation a few years ago, which some even consider to be the best version of the story? Beetlejuice first came to Broadway in 2019, after having made its debut in a small Washington DC theater a year earlier. The success of the soundtrack on TikTok quickly propelled the play to global success. But it is above all thanks to its surprising sets that bring Tim Burton's universe to life, as well as its reworked script, that Beetlejuice: The Musical deserves our full attention.
At 2 hours and 30 minutes long – compared to 1h32 for the 1988 film – The stage adaptation of Beetlejuice benefits from a deeper, more complex but also funnier storyline. Alas, this “deluxe” version of the original work has never ventured to our country… But it won’t be long now. After the United States, South Korea and Brazil, Europe is finally getting ready to receive its first productions of Beetlejuice: The Musical.

French fans will have to travel to discover this new interpretation of Tim Burton's film. Due to lack of popularity, musicals very rarely make their way to French theaters, but our European neighbors are more sensitive to them! This is how the European premiere of Beetlejuice: The Musical took place in Linköping, Sweden on September 6th. The show will run until October 6, before moving to a new theater for performances in Norrköping from October 31 to December 8, 2024. The theatre website unfortunately does not indicate in which language the show is presented.
However, The Czech Republic is also preparing to host the musical from November 7th, and this version will offer English subtitles. With tickets available from €16this is certainly the most affordable alternative to discover the show. Despite incessant rumors, the arrival of Beetlejuice in London has not yet been made official. The United Kingdom may no longer be part of Europe, but musical comedy fans are used to hopping on the Eurostar to reach the West End theatre district in just a few hours. With the Mean Girls adaptation already in the English capital, Beetlejuice should soon follow. Otherwise, you should know that it is still possible to discover the original show in the United States via the American tour.
