In one day, Hades 2 is already doing better than the first
Last night, while everyone was returning from work, school or shopping, Supergiant Games was preparing a surprise for its players. We have been waiting for several months for news ofHades II, the long-awaited sequel to the successful independent game released in 2018. If we planned to have new gameplay images by Summer Game Fest, we won't have to wait that long after all. Don't even wait at all since the game is available now.
Hades II was released by surprise yesterday early evening, making itself available in early access on Steam and the Epic Games Store. For the moment, only PC players can benefit from it, while waiting for a definitive release within a few months or a few years. The studio tells us that it should remain in this state at least until the beginning of 2025, which gives plenty of time for the game to improve.
Mélinoe the fighter
In this second part, players can play the sister of Zagreus, the protagonist of the first game. Her name is Melinoe and this time does not want to fight her father Hades, but rather the Titan of Time, also called Chronos. To do this, she will have to defeat a good number of enemies, learn from the gods, but also from the monsters who populate this mythological world with Greek inspirations.
With this second game, Supergiant Games promises us an even larger environment, new characters, a story rich in twists and turns and no less combat. Difficulty remains the heart of the gameplay, which takes up the codes of the rogue-like genre. Released 6 years after the first opus, Hades II has the merit of improving a whole bunch of graphic parameters and asserting itself even more visually.
Already on the path to success?
Barely released, the game already counts nearly 7,000 extremely positive reviews. This is not surprising given that it is one of the most anticipated titles of the year, all categories combined. Independent games are starting to take their rightful place in terms of media visibility and importance in the eyes of players, and Hades first of the name is almost the standard bearer.
In just 24 hours of existence, Hades 2 even achieved an (almost) unexpected feat. The number of simultaneous players reaches 99,891, which is well over double the franchise's first title. These figures are only valid for the Steam platform, and were retrieved via SteamDB. Everything suggests that they will increase further in the coming days.
If you are on consoles and want to get started Hades II, there is currently no alternative. The only way to benefit from it would be for Supergiant Games to form a partnership with Xbox, and thus integrate it into Xbox Game Pass via the Game Preview program. Unfortunately, there is no indication that such a thing will happen, so we will have to be patient and wait for a definitive release in 2025 at the earliest.
