Shōgun is too popular not to have a season 2

Presented as a limited series, Shōgun could ultimately swap this label for another. At least that’s what the very serious person says. Deadline, who claims to have spoken with sources close to the matter. While the creators have repeatedly confided their ambitions to end the journey to feudal Japan with the tenth episode, the FX channel has just concluded an agreement with producer and actor Hiroyuki Sanada. It is around his character and his ascension to the throne that the first season revolved, the series could not do without him if it were to continue.

Its participation being crucial, the Disney subsidiary does not intend to let its golden goose slip away. Launched last February, Shōgun had made a audience record with its first two episodes. In just six days, she displayed nine million views worldwide on Disney+. This allowed it to surpass the excellent results of The Bear season 2, broadcast a few months earlier. The conclusion of an agreement with Hiroyuki Sanada, however, is not the formalization of a sequel, FX still needs to begin the creative process and find replacements for creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo. These revelations could even have consequences for the future of the series.

FX must make a choice…and quickly

FX will soon have to rule on the matter, as the Emmy subscription deadline approaches. In a few days, the contenders for the titles in play will have to complete their files to hope to obtain rewards. If a second season is released, Shōgun will have to resolve to change category since she will not be able to compete in the limited series. Competition being less stiff among dramatic productions with several seasons, this last minute change could be in favor of a victory. The criticism was in all cases particularly enthusiastic.

We will probably have to wait a little longer to get the end of this story. Sanada's return is still an indicator that things are moving forward behind the scenes. All is therefore not lost for spectators, who can hope to continue the journey alongside the characters soon. As a reminder, Shōgun is the most expensive series ever produced by FX. To create a mythology and convincing settings, the American channel spared no expense. An investment from which the company hopes to benefit for as long as possible.
