X-Men ’97 prepares for the clash with the Avengers

The series has already adapted famous story arcs like “Inferno”, “The Trial of Magneto”, and even Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s series, “New X-Men”. These adaptations were rather well received by the public and fans. And the series has no shortage of material with stories that could bring the team up against some formidable adversaries…including Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Towards a major confrontation?

Ross Marquand, who lends his voice to Professor ComicBook that there was a “real chance” that the series would adapt the famous “Avengers vs. X-Men.” This plot, released in 2012 and created by authors and artists like Brian Michael Bendis and Olivier Coipel, could take on a new dimension in X-Men ’97.

In what could be the common thread of season 2, it is the point of view of the X-Men which would be in the foreground, unlike the comics where the Avengers were more highlighted. Enough to highlight the frustrations of characters like Cyclops and Rogue with the treatment of mutants.

What also criticizes Captain America’s rigid approach to acts of violence against mutants. Cap’ was particularly upset with Rogue, who got rid of the Avenger’s shield by throwing it into a snowy mountainside: ” He’s not going to find that shield. It’s not like Mjolnir that you can just call back to yourself, it’s stuck in there. He’s going to blame Snape for a while », reveals Ross Marquand.

The first season of X-Men ’97 is almost finished, but the development of the second season is already well underway. It should logically introduce new formidable enemies and continue to explore the complex intertwining between the heroes. And beware of spoilers!

Episode 9 of the first season set the stage for the introduction of Onslaught, a powerful supervillain born from the fusion of the darker aspects of Xavier and Magneto’s psyches. This entity represents such a danger that, in the comics, the X-Men had to ally with the Avengers and the Fantastic Four to defeat it.

In addition to these big clashes, the series finally seems ready to delve into deeper personal arcs, notably that of Wolverine. After being seriously injured by Magneto, the latter could explore his past and discover his true nature, revealing tortured aspects of his character and abilities. The series could also touch on stories of redemption and self-discovery, following Wolverine in his process of healing and reconnecting with his humanity.
